Hi, there!

I'm Summer.

It is so nice to meet you.

Pronouns: she/her/hers

As I started writing this, I thought about what I would want to know about a person who was expecting me to trust them with my whole self. It's a tricky question to answer. I mean, I knew that I would want to know that they were nonjudgemental and good at being a therapist but coming up with something more than that was hard for me. I did finally realize what it is that would help me feel as comfortable as possible (because, let's be honest, it's always going to feel a little weird talking to a stranger about your emotional insides)--I would want to know that the person who is going to be seeing me at my human-est is also utterly human. I would want to know that they are real so that I would feel like I can be real. So here I am--real.

My real is ready for your real.

My Story

I graduated in 2012 with my graduate social work degree (an MSSA) from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. My professional background is quite varied and I have extensive experience working with children as young as three, adolescents, and adults. I have worked in a variety of settings, including non-profits, schools, psychiatric hospitals, and private practice. I have treated a wide variety of conditions and disorders, including anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, obsessive-compulsive disorder, ADHD, oppositional-defiance, trauma, and Bipolar disorder. I have specialized training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-focused therapy, relationship therapy, and parent coaching.

I am married and have four children under four years of age. When I speak about how hard parenting is, please know that it genuinely comes from my heart and experience. I love my children but do not always love parenting them. I am working every day to overcome the obstacles that were placed in my way by my own parents to be the best parent I can be.

My top five favorite things are reading, baking, shoes, Taylor Swift, and self-indulgence. I'm a recovering perfectionist. I love organizing things, although I am kind of chaotic by nature. I journal to process my feelings. I love to laugh and to make others laugh. I am a Highly Sensitive Person, a 6w7 Enneagram, and an INFJ Meyers-Briggs. I am passionate about social justice and women's rights. The privilege of my life is being trusted with my clients' stories.

I have been where you are now--searching for someone to help me make sense of what is going on in my head and heart and life. I remember being so overwhelmed by the process, and wanting so much more information than I could find on anyone's website. That's why I am sharing as much information as I can with you here--read about me, my work, my beliefs. Let's talk about the questions you have. I'm here for you.

An educated ally.

I participate in regular trainings held by members of the LGBTQIA+ community to ensure that I am educated on relevant issues and that I am hearing queer voices identify important things for therapist allies to know and practice. I create space for every client I see, and how much of that space is taken up by gender or sexual identity is absolutely up to you. I am not, personally or professionally, into labels. Be who you are. I'm here for it.

A strong support system.

Everyone benefits from exploring their sexuality in a non-judgmental way. I am a sex-, kink-, and non-monogamous-friendly therapist. I strongly believe that there is no pathology in consensual sexuality; YOU are in charge of what you do with your body, mind, and spirit. Often, exploring sexuality and/or discussing kinks can enhance therapy and quality of life.

I am not a certified sex therapist, but can provide referrals to anyone wishing to seek specialized treatment.

There's space here for you.

I am a firm believer in embracing the ways that progress simplifies things and in making access to mental health as easy as possible. Teletherapy makes scheduling easier, reduces logistical challenges for those seeking treatment, and ensures that you are as comfortable as possible.

Teletherapy is for everyone.
